Ballinafunshogue West

Ballinafunshogue west
Two trial adits are in the forest to the northwest of the car park at Ballinafunshogue. Access to both involves a lot of bushwhacking and is easier in winter when bracken is dead. Originally each was accessed by a different path but these paths are now overgrown by furze and are difficult to find and follow.

8a: This trial adit has been driven into the hillside along the strike of the lode to prove it. It ends at a collapse after about 50 feet.

8b: This level is marked on Weaver's map of 1812. It is driven in for 35m to intersect the Ballinafunshoge lode after which another 16m drivage to the southeast, which contains a flooded shaft, ends in a forehead.
