Family tradition was that she and her brother Joseph were orphaned and sent to England to a rich English aunt who put her working as a skivvy in her boarding house. Later research suggests that this relation was Jane Davies (nee Sefton) & that she may not have been at all rich & may have acted in the interests of the 2 children.

She first married James.

In 1871 were living at 130 East Adelaide Street, South Shields.

She second married Thomas Proudlock Turner , son of George Turner & Ann, 8 November 1890 in COI, St Paul's, Jarrow, Durham. Born March 1868. Occupation Coal Miner?. Address at time of wedding was 36 Stead Street, Jarrow.  Witnesses at wedding were David Buckley & Mary Ann Turner.  On marriage cert, father's name is given as Joseph Hanlon, carpenter.

In 1901 census was living at 54 John Street, Hebburn, South Shields; was described as a 'blacksmith's striker'. They appear to have occupied 2 rooms. The house was shared with another family of six persons plus their boarder! In the 1891 census they were living in 1 room at 5 Hood Street & Thomas was described as a shipyard labourer.

Was living at 85 Chicester Street in South Shields in early 1943 having left Forest Hill in London temporarily (safer during World War 2?).
